Artist Statement
Paige M Tyler

One of my teachers once said, "If you want realism, take a picture" and that statement created who I am as an artist. I find breathtaking inspiration in objects that have lived a full life and have a story to tell via their scars from time and use. I strive to give each of my pieces the same scars through my process of adding many layers so their story will radiate from the substrate. They are always perfectly imperfect and slightly irreverent.
The faces and witty statements I choose to paint remind of me of people and stories of the past. And while I dabble with many characters I am particularly attracted to cowboys and sailors and their strong place in American history and their distinctive style. But I also dabble in whatever is thrills me in the moment.
